2017 Project Gold Running Camp
Saint Mary’s University, Winona, MN
Open to all serious cross country runners going into the 7th-12th grades.
Camp features Tom “Tinman” Schwartz (bio below)
Included in the camp are:
1. Daily lectures including how to make the jump from high school to collegiate athletics
2. Sports Psychology—leaving camp with an exciting vision and empowering goals
3. Three daily meals
4. A room
5. At least one running workout per day; three strength sessions; two stretching sessions;
6. A challenging environment, fun time, and cool camp shirt
Campus view and Saint Mary’s Trail Map—where the majority of training runs will occur.
Supervision: Campers will have a 15:1 ratio to counselors/coaches maximum and will sleep in the dorms with one roommate. Runners will be grouped by ability.
Requirements: Campers must come having a base of at least 30 miles per week. There is a zero tolerance for discipline issues and campers who fail to obey the rules, respect fellow campers and counselors/coaches will be immediately dismissed from camp and sent home at their parents' expense. Eligible ages those entering the 7th-12th grade.
Three Levels of Participation
$725 for campers who are dropped of at Camp;
$775 for campers who fly into the Minneapolis International Airport, or Rochester
International Airport. Assuming campers arrive at MSP by 12:00 PM, or RST by
1:30 PM and a shuttle will be arranged to deliver campers to campus. Limited to the
first 150 athletes. Registration deadline is May 25
$350 Day camp 1 meal a day + all activities.
$140 Day camp only participating in daily running workouts

BIO - Tom “Tinman” Schwartz a USATF Level 1 coach with over 27 years of experience
coaching runners and other endurance athletes on how to improve their performance.
Coach Schwartz is a lifelong student as well as an educator. He earned both a bachelor’s and
a master’s degree in exercise science, a master’s degree in business administration, and is
currently at work on his PhD.
Tom will contribute 3 lectures covering maximum lactate steady state training (critical
velocity, threshold and tempo training), Vo2 max training, and how to build volume of
training systematically for success. Tom will directly work with the campers in 3 training
sessions which will include running technique, hill running, track/flat running and how to
race.

I feel during them!" World age-group record holder for the 5,000 meters (16:26) at age 13
and 2-miles (10:28) at age 12.
Saint Mary’s University Facilities which provides a robust trail system—grass, hills and
shade; swimming pool, high ropes course, indoor track for inclement weather, weight room,
outdoor track, classrooms, dorms and dining hall.

and made a smooth progression to collegiate running.
